Tracks of the Week (005)
Author: Aidan TullochYo peopledem… September basically done, how’s it nearly October? Ten out of twelve months gone. Crazy.
Anyway, my favourite tracks for this week (still feel bad on Jamie T for last week).
Cold, Jawnino, Tirzah - ‘Miles’
Those who know ‘It’s cold out’ already know the formidable partnership between Cold and Jawnino - coming like prime Wright and Bright, in the 90s. If this duo wasn’t enough, Cold jumping on vox (giving me 2000s vibes), and Tirzah a part of this track too - HOW GREEDY - from prime Wright and Bright to Yannick Bolasie, Wilf Zaha and Glenn Murray. Wasn’t Jawnino and Cold not enough? I hear it though, Tirzah transported this track to the next dimension with her mini 10/15 second feature, taking this track straight to the moon.
Score: 9.5/10
The Family Rain - ‘Teach Me a Lesson’
Been a staple in my listening catalogue for the past 10/15 years. Still creating, kudos to them. Still keeping it true to themselves, kudos. ‘Teach me a lesson’ isn’t riff based but reflects creative exploration between both the backing and main vocals - not your usual start to a TFR song. However, by the time the drums come in, the rhythm guitar is ringing out using their usual FX - giving that timeless sound from the boys.
Score: 9/10
Beastie, Southsidefinn - ‘southside prayer’
Shout out Beastie and Southsidefinn. SSFinn captured his vulnerability on a BEASTIE production, a part of BEASTIE’s new EP ‘maria’ which landed last Wednesday 23rd September. ‘southside prayer’ has a real atmospheric feel which left perfect space for Finn’s vocals, capturing the essence of real rap. ‘Love is never cheap, I paid a hell of a price’.
Score: 10/10
